It’s been a long year for fans of the historic Southgate House. When the old owners moved on from the historic space in Newport at the end of last year, we mourned and hoped it wouldn’t be the end of the Southgate House story.
Well, today the plans for a new Southgate House are official. In a press release from Morella Raleigh, she states “We’re very excited to finally be announcing the reopening,” said Morrella Raleigh.” “The support the community has shown has been overwhelming and we know this new spot is only going to enhance their music going experiences. We can’t wait to get back to business.”
More details below in the release.
Newport, KY —- The owner of the former Historic Southgate House, Ross Raleigh today formally announces the relocation of his popular nightclub business to another historic property, the former Grace Method Episcopal Church, located at 111 E. Sixth Street Newport, KY, just off Newport’s main drag, Monmouth Street, in the city’s historic downtown business district.
The business will be renamed The Southgate House Revival, will feature three stages under one roof and will continue the business’ tradition of presenting independent music in a variety of genres up to seven nights a week.
The business will reopen the weekend of October 5-6.
The property at E. Sixth Street, which had been on Newport’s most endangered historic properties list, is currently under renovation. The Grace Method Episcopal Church was built in 1848 with a large sanctuary added in 1866.Its main sanctuary features a large pipe organ and eleven large stained glass windows. The large sanctuary will be utilized to showcase national touring acts and larger local and regional events. The facility also houses a downstairs lounge with a small stage and a second floor with a stage to showcase mid-range shows.

Excellent news indeed! Can’t wait to se what bands are being booked. It sure does feel like the Taft Ballroom has taken over some of the old Soutgate House types of bands (last week’s Black Angels show being a prime example).
