There is something about The Wrens, something about their most recent release, The Meadowlands, that is rare and unique. Its rare and unique to witness middle aged band members act like a teenage rock band on stage, full of energy and emotion. The Meadowlands is one of the best pop album released in some time, at least in my opinion, and the band has managed to tour the labour of love for a few years now, as we all anticipate some new tunes.

I had the opportunity to hang out at the WOXY Lounge last Saturday as The Wrens stopped in for a session before their show that night at The Southgate House in Newport. The guys were tired and hungry after the drive from Columbus and a regrettable trip through a White Castle drive thru the night before. Even so they managed to have a blast and leave me doubled over in laughter most of session. I was able to snap a few photos of the event, although with a borrowed camera that frustrated the hell out of me.

Captains Dead has The Wrens KEXP performance available for download.
