Sometimes an artist or band will remind you of another musician or band and it can be incredibly annoying. Even in this day and age where almost everyone is pulling from some other artist to make up their own body of work. Other times it is incredibly comforting and assuring, and that is the case with Tyler Ramsey.

Ramsey is preparing to release his solo debut on January 15th titled, A Long Dream About Swimming Across The Sea on Echo Mountain Records. The Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville, North Carolina are already well known for the artists that have laid down work there (My Morning Jacket, Avett Brothers, Arizona), but are also incredibly well known for their excellent production background, most of which is done by Mr. Danny Kadar. Ramsey chose Kadar for this project of course, and Echo Mountain in Asheville, (which is also his hometown) and the results certainly speak to those wise choices.

If you are not familiar at all with Tyler Ramsey, he is best known for his amazing guitar work, likening the sounds of John Fahey and being recognized by many as one of the best at what he does. Ramsey was recently asked to join Band Of Horses actually when Ben Bridwell relocated to the south and he not only played with the band on their recent fall tour, but also opened for them playing his solo stuff.

But on to what I eluded to in the beginning of this post regarding an artist I am reminded of by Ramsey. To me this guy sounds so much like Mark Kozelek on a few of these tunes but with better guitar work and possibly better lyrics as well, and I really like Kozelek. If you are a fan of his Sun Kil Moon project, I know you will really enjoy this Tyler Ramsey disc.

So be sure to pick it up next month from Echo Mountain, and sample one of my favorite songs from the album below. You can also snag a few more songs from his MySpace page.
