Under Byen

Close your eyes for a moment and imagine Cat Power singing, with her most hushed, bedroom pop, tones at work. Imagine a steady drum beat, some strings, and an added dose of violin and piano. Now, imagine she is singing in Danish. Yes, it could jolt your little daydream into a more Bjork-like, Jonsi Birgisson shift, but lets not lose focus.

The sounds that Under Byen create (pronounced Oona-Boon) are reminiscent of all of the artists mentioned above, but have a certain uniqueness that sets them apart, which in part could be due to recording space, which took place in an old 18 century house in Brussels. The album, “Samme Stof Som Stof” which is Danish translates into, “Of Same Fabric as Fabric” is the debut disc from the Danish band, and should be sought out from Paperbag Records, if you cant find it at your local indie record shop.

Not bad. I’ve stumbled upon this Swedish indie-pop band Raymond and Maria and love it, even though I don’t understand a thing they are singing. Though they do have a couple english tracks, I like the Swedish versions better.
