Have you been keeping up with Beck’s record club project? Well, if you have not, the uber talented musician has been covering songs recently, and usually with a talented cast around him. Here is the premise of the record club.
Record Club is an informal meeting of various musicians to record an album in a day. The album chosen to be reinterpreted is used as a framework. Nothing is rehearsed or arranged ahead of time. A track is put up here once a week. As you will hear, some of the songs are rough renditions, often first takes that document what happened over the course of a day as opposed to a polished rendering. There is no intention to ‘add to’ the original work or attempt to recreate the power of the original recording. Only to play music and document what happens. And those who aren’t familiar with the albums in question will hopefully look for the songs in their definitive versions.
This weeks version is a cover of a Skip Spence song, “Little Hands” and the cast of characters that pulled it off is nothing less than stellar. Contributing to the song is Wilco, Feist, Jamie Lidell and of course, Beck himself. Check out the video below, which also features Wilco Jr. and excellent blogger Spencer Tweedy.

This might be the best thing Beck has ever done.
Not this song in particular, but the the whole idea of the record club. (and the song is great too though…)
I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with Beck but this project has gained him a few points in my book.
Thanks for keeping us updated with this!
