I’ve been making a habit of watching the Tonight Show this summer ever since Conan O’Brien took the reigns, something about his self-depracating style of humor cracks me up. And of course you know I make a habit of taking in all things Wilco.
The new album is due out next week, and to tide us over, the boys made a trip to the Tonight Show last night, wearing the Nudie suits, with Nels plucking on the double-neck guitar I mentioned and even filling out the stage with a couple musicians I was unfamiliar with. Enjoy the video below, and if you have not already done so, pre-order the new record here.
The performance was spot-on, and the “get-ups” are completely cool. Where’s your sense of Alt-Country/Glam irony, Oz?
I’m going to have to agree with Oz on this one. Sure, there’s plenty of irony to go around, and there’s always plenty of room for a sense of humor in rock music. Nevertheless, I for one would rather not be faced with the glare from Nels Cline’s sequenced short-pants while watching one of my favorite bands perform “Misunderstood”. Just because Feist joined in on “You and I” doesn’t mean Jeff Tweedy needs to step into the video for “1-2-3-4″.

Hard to take them seriously in those get-ups. That shirt the drummer is wearing is especially ridiculous.
I’m seeing them tonight. I’d love nothing more than to see them in tee shirts.
