If you have internet access and are a music fan you have probably already heard that the new Wilco album will be titled “Sky Blue Sky”. The announcement from Jeff last week was confirmed and a couple news sites made it more official. Its the first album for the band since 2004 and I know I and many others are eagerly awaiting the new disc. Its due out in the UK on May 14 and in the US the following day.
The rumors are flying as to whether or not any of the new songs that the band has been playing live will be on the disc. Tunes like Impossible Germany, The Thanks I Get and Walken will hopefully make the cut, as they are really sounding great in the live set. This is also the first studio album with the current 6 members contributing, which Ive gone on record as saying is the best lineup in the band ever.
Also, in case you missed it, The Autumn Defense, which features Wilco guitarist John Stirrat and multi instrumentalist Pat Sansome released a brand new full length last week also. Its the follow up to the excellent 2003 album, Circles and should be a must have for Wilco die hards. The self titled record is available now from Broadmoor Records.

I’m a huge fan of Wilco, but that Autumn Defense track really rubs me wrong. I could do without the flute and other ambient noise. Sounds like a bad Traffic tune.
I hear what you are saying, its not a Wilco-like track at all. Still, you (and I) may have heard it different if we didnt know who the members were…
Wilcos always evolving. Next we’ll see him singing with Joanna Newsom!
Please tell me this album is at least half as good as Yankee Hotel Foxtrot!
stirrat is the bassist of wilco.
Just listened to the new cd last night abou 10 times and it was amazing. some of the best usic i have ver heard. Old wilco fans will love it
…old Wilco fans will love it…old like Buckeye Card old. As a fan who was introduced to their music at a show before Being There even came out…no - old Wilco fan is not impressed.
This record is awful. I liked a couple of songs, and some of the middle bits of other songs…but it just sounds like adult contemporary with an occasional Phish guitar solo (my wife and I compare the solos to The Weather Channel’s incidental music.)
I think that their new cd will be much appreciated by those who love old classic rock…
it is just as good as Yankee, if not better..
This album amazes me.
I am sad to report that the leaked version of the album that I got is reaaallly boring. I imagine that a few songs will grow on me, but the reaction that I had to previous albums (AGIB, yankee hotel foxtrot etc.) far surpasses anything I felt with this. No goosebumps, head-bobbing.
Verryy down-tempo, couple of basic riffs, and no loud noises/anything that usually distinguishes Wilco from pop music. It’s a sad day.
It’s not as mind blowingly great as YHF. I think most will be disappointed on the first listen. More than any Wilco album, this one is a grower. You’ll need to hear at 3 or 4 times before you “get it”, I think. I have it ranked third of their albums, after YHF and AGIB. Good guiatr work throughout. Probably Wilcos best lyrics yet. Either this or YHF. Have I mentioned I love YHF?
All in all, it’s a great album. It’s very low key. It’s not as exciting as the past 4 albums, but it doesn’t try to be and it doesn’t need to be. Why does something need to be weird to be good? It doesn’t, and Wilco proves it. probably a 9.1/10 or 4/5 stars.
