Jona Bechtolt is really making a name for himself these days. Of course, the album from The Blow, Paper Television, being a big indie success certainly helped. Bechtolt is one half of The Blow, or, The Blow’s IT guy, as Pitchfork dubbed him. For his new solo album, under the guise of Yacht, Bechtolt takes a similar approach to what Jimmy Tamborello does as DNTEL, though without all the high profile collaborators.

It’s pure indie “lap-pop” complete with cheerleader chants, hand claps and plenty of electronic dancy beats mixed in. As if that was not enough novelty, the CD came in the mail along with a magic wand, just in case you weren’t already feeling the nerdtastic vibe. But all nerdisms aside this is the type of album that is instantly like able and fun. And while I would imagine this will have a rather fast burn for me, I am really enjoying it right now. The album is out this week from Marriage Records, be sure to check this one out, in all its magical glory…..
